On Friday, 17/08/2018 at the Doha Stadium in Qatar, the Eritrean and Ethiopian communities held a festive to support the peace Agreement signed by Eritrean President H.E President Isaias Afwerki and H.E Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed, Prime Minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia on July 9,
The event, which was attended by a large audience of the two communities, included a number of sports and artistic programs and the speeches of the ambassadors of the two countries and the chairman of the two communities.
In a speech delivered by His Excellency Ambassador Ali Ibrahim Ahmed, Ambassador of the State of Eritrea to Qatar, said: “We stand together in solidarity with the peace initiative between our countries Eritrea and Ethiopia under the sponsorship of His Excellency President Isaias Afwerki, President of State of Eritrea and His Excellency Dr. Abiy Ahmed, We reaffirm our support for this constructive steps which is considered as an exceptional and detailed event in the history of the two countries and their brotherly peoples. This generous initiative offers great opportunities for establishing lasting peace based on opening a new page of peace and friendship in order to achieve A bright future leads to the prosperity of the two countries in various economic and social fields as well as for the benefit of the peoples of the region.
Let us give our hands together to establish a culture of peace, friendship, love and cooperation.
In conclusion, I would like to extend my thanks and gratitude to the State of Qatar, Especially for His Highness Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, Emir of the State of Qatar and his good government and the Qatari people and thanks to the joint committee from the Eritrean and Ethiopian communities.
In a speech delivered by His Excellency Ambassador Matasabia Tadesse woldegerges, Ambassador of Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to Qatar, said: “I would like to congratulate you on this historic day, and allow me also to express our deep thanks and appreciation to H.E Prime Minister, Dr. Abiy Ahmed, and to H.E President Isaias Afewerki for their creativity the bright hope in our souls.
There is no difference between the Ethiopian and Eritrean peoples, and there are links between the two peoples in terms of language, culture and history. Our friendly relations are linked to blood and spirit, and the two peoples are associated with a common history and culture and spend happy and painful days with each other.
The people of the diaspora express their great happiness for the peace and love that have taken place between the two peoples after 20 years. The reception and hospitality offered by both peoples on their own during the visit of the Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed to Eritrea, and Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki to Ethiopia, is a tangible evidence of the happiness and joy that overwhelmed both peoples. The scene of the meeting of the brethren, who shed tears, was very impressive.
A new chapter has been opened between the two peoples, and we should be keen to preserve and develop this precious opportunity. Diplomatic relations have been established in order to build these relations on an established basis. We are witnessing the relations of the people travelling on at an accelerated pace between the two airlines of both countries.
As the expatriates abroad from both countries have a role to play in consolidating and establishing this reconciliation initiated by the leaders of the two countries. We have to go out today and pledge to promote this reconciliation. In order to achieve this goal, we have to establish joint Cultural performances and other similar programs in order to enhance our future relationships.
I would like to remind both our communities to do everything in their power to bring expatriates closer together, considering the reconciliation that has begun between the two countries. I would also like to inform you that we as diplomats, you will find our support in improving all conditions, as well as diplomatic relations.
In conclusion, I would like to urge everyone to work hard in order to continue the relations in this way. At the same time, I express my deep thanks and appreciation to the Government and people of Qatar, especially His Highness Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani and all those who contributed to the success of this program.
